The devil marionette was made around 1920 by the Czech puppeteer and woodcarver František Šimek.
In the case of the sale of this puppet, we dedicate half of the amount collected to the development of PUP - Puppet University Prague
This marionette was made out of historical materials of high quality. Her whole body is carved from wood, but she is different from other marionettes - she has hair made of wood and at the same time she has artificial hair added to it. Note also the eyes in which the beads were inserted, which is also unique. Another peculiarity of this marionette is the humorously "torn" shoes. In short, an original piece of history.
František Šimek (1881-1949) learned the carving craft from his father. He created heads and whole marionettes either alone or with other Czech puppeteers. He also renovated marionettes for other puppeteers. The costumes were made by his wife. In addition to marionettes, he also made daily necessities and furniture and restored wooden sculptures in churches.
My 17 year old daughter absolutely adores Annie! As she said, “She’s not just a doll—she’s a work of art!” This is an exquisite marionette. Obviously made with great artistry and attention to detail. Beyond lovely!
