The dancer marionette was designed around 1940 by the graphic artist Jan Benda. All materials used are original and of very high quality.
In the case of the sale of this puppet, we dedicate half of the amount collected to the development of PUP - Puppet University Prague
This is how people in the first half of the 20th century imagined how exotic dancers looked. This marionette is made of linden wood, has beautiful wooden gold shoes, metal earrings and a beautiful pink costume. It will fit into the collection of a marionette enthusiast or connoisseur.
Jan Benda (1897-1967) was a Czech graphic artist, draftsman and later a puppeteer. After being wounded on the Italian front, he was employed at the Archaeological Institute in Prague. He then began working with various Czech puppeteers to design and process marionettes, which he also modeled. Some of his marionette designs were processed by the company of the Czech carver Josef Kalous.
My 17 year old daughter absolutely adores Annie! As she said, “She’s not just a doll—she’s a work of art!” This is an exquisite marionette. Obviously made with great artistry and attention to detail. Beyond lovely!
