The Puss in Boots marionette was created by the Czech artist Štěpán Zálešák around 1910.
The antique Puss in Boots marionette is a very unique piece. This one also has the whole body covered in fur, including the tail. On his hands you can notice the detailed carving of his fur and also his claws. His vest is also made of leather and his hood is made of a beautiful fabric with golden details. His cat whiskers and elongated eyes also add to his uniqueness. He hides his ears under a red leather hat. His boots are also made of leather. All this is adorned with the sword on his hip that he cannot go anywhere without.
Štěpán Zálešák (1874] - 1945) was a Czech sculptor and carver. He specialized mainly in sacred art, he also devoted himself to restoration work. His works adorn many Czech churches (St. Vitus Cathedral). In 1898–1912 he worked in his own studio in Prague, most of his marionettes come from this period. In 1912 he began teaching carving and sculpture at the School of Applied Arts.
It’s adorable and so much fun to play with. My 4 year old loves watching the marionette dance!
